TCAA Trauma Center Finance and Business Planning Course – Virtual
The Basic Finance and Business Course for Trauma Centers is designed to help healthcare professionals understand the financial concepts and methodologies that are crucial to the reimbursement process for trauma services. By gaining foundational knowledge of billing cycles and the utilization of trauma codes, participants will be well-equipped to develop and sustain a financially successful trauma program.
This course is ideal for professionals new to trauma finance or those looking to strengthen their understanding of the financial aspects of trauma care. Through lectures and exercises, you will learn the key elements of hospital billing, trauma charges, and the appropriate use of codes, such as 068x, 0450, 0208, and FL14, Type 5. Real-world, case-based examples will be used throughout the course to illustrate best practices in business planning and financial management for trauma programs.
Curriculum Highlights:
Gain a comprehensive understanding of the hospital billing cycle, including how charges are generated, claims are billed, and denials are handled. Understand the key touchpoints in the cycle and how they impact trauma program finances.
Diagram the trauma billing process, identifying each step from charge generation to denial resolution. Learn to pinpoint documentation and billing issues through case study analysis, helping to improve your program’s financial accuracy.
Summarize the key roles within the healthcare system that contribute to trauma finance and billing, including the responsibilities of different departments and stakeholders in the reimbursement process.
Discuss the trauma program manager’s scope of responsibility related to finance and billing, highlighting the critical role they play in ensuring financial efficiency and compliance.
Credit Statements
Nurse CE: The Trauma Center Association of America is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 16459 for approved 5.5 contact hours. Certificate must be retained for 4 years after date of issue. Nurses should claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Physician CME: The Trauma Association of America is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. TCAA designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Virtual Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS)15 – April/May 2025
Four (4) 1/2 day virtual AIS15 training, Friday April 25, 2025, Monday May 5th, Tuesday May 6 and Wednesday May 14, 8 am to 12 pm
Each participant must have a computer with functioning audiovisual equipment (webcam, headset, or built-in microphone that is turned on throughout the class).
The four 1/2 days course is designed for registrars, trauma nurse coordinators / program managers, physicians, hospital records personnel, and researchers or engineers who are responsible for injury databases. (Participants should have general knowledge of anatomy.)
Course Objectives
- Understand the structure, organization and contents of the Abbreviated Injury Scale
- Abstract injury data from medical charts
- Rule out information that is not codeable
- Distinguish between injuries and outcomes
- Apply injury coding rules and guidelines specific to each body region
- Apply rules for calculating the Injury Severity Score (ISS) for multiple body region injuries
Prerequisites:
- Minimum of 6 months (1 year or more suggested) experience working with AIS either in a trauma registry or coding of injury cases
- Basic anatomy course or equivalent
- Basic medical terminology course or equivalent
Members only event. Member savings $375. Cost includes the AIS2015 manual (electronically or hard copy). Registration and payment must be received by March 31, 2025. No late registrations will be accepted. The cancellation policy will be enforced.

Virtual Optimal 2025
The Optimal Trauma Center Organization & Management Course is taught by physicians and nurses with the goal of enhancing a trauma center system of care and improving patient care. Whether a verified mature trauma center or a hospital preparing for designation, this course is designed to assist participants to create strategies, processes, and operations to support trauma center systems based upon their own environments. The course is highly recommended for trauma medical directors, trauma program managers / coordinators, and administrators.
To successfully complete this course participants must attend the event in its entirety, verify attendance by signing in, and complete an evaluation at the end of the course.
CE Information
The Society of Trauma Nurses is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. This activity has been awarded 6.3 contact hours.
The University of Kentucky College of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The University of Kentucky College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™.
