Virtual Trauma Program Management Course 2025

The course is offered in a two-day format, August 20-21 8:30 AM – 5 PM, designed by seasoned leaders in Trauma Program Management throughout the country. It is an interactive course providing Trauma Program Managers/Directors/Coordinators, PI Coordinators, other members of the trauma program, and those interested in joining the field with the core concepts of building a sustainable and comprehensive trauma program. The course concepts to include:

  • Compatibility with 2022 Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient
  • Module dedicated to Leadership, Teamwork, and Communication with senior management
  • Expanded toolkit resources to include editable samples of policies, job descriptions, checklists, spreadsheets, etc.
  • Compendium of web-based resources and supplemental reading list offered to improve access to faculty references
  • Integration of contemporary concepts into materials: PI Dictionaries, Just Culture, report calendars, data validation, SWOT analyses, virtual meetings and visits, and more!
  • Inclusion of revised field triage guidelines, No Surprises Act, acute and chronic stress evaluations, and helicopter shopping
  • Strategic planning and finance includes business plans, strategic plans, internal and external marketing concepts, etc.

This course is recognized throughout the trauma community as the premier course for learning the role and importance of managing a Trauma Program as well as the role of essential members of a trauma program. Each course is taught by seasoned Trauma Program experts who bring years of experience and knowledge to the trauma centers’ success.

The course covers key concepts of a trauma program, including:

    1. Essential components of a trauma system
    2. Leadership roles critical to the success of a Trauma Program
    3. Key components of the Trauma Program Manager role
    4. Important elements of a successful Performance Improvement Patient Safety Program
    5. Planning and preparation for trauma center verification/designation
    6. Best practice recommendations for trauma outreach and education
    7. Implementing a dynamic trauma registry
    8. Important elements of the trauma budget
    9. Design process, tools, and data that will influence optimal reporting in accordance with accepted standards within the industry
    10. Key psychological and socio-economic challenges common in trauma patients

Course Objectives

    1. Describe essential components of trauma programs and trauma systems
    2. Recognize the impact of psychological and socio-economic challenges within the population served
    3. List the roles and responsibilities of the trauma program manager (TPM), trauma medical director (TMD), other trauma program staff and key leadership roles
    4. Identify important elements of a successful Performance Improvement Patient Safety (PIPS) Program
    5. Discuss the planning and preparation necessary for trauma center verification and designation
    6. Describe key components, best practice and implementation for trauma outreach, education, injury prevention, registry, and trauma budget
    7. Discuss designing tools and data to influence optimal reporting in accordance with standards within the trauma industry

Prerequisite / Co-requisites

1. A Laptop or desktop computer with connection to the Internet
2. Webcam with microphone/speakers
3. High speed internet and World-Wide-Web access
4. Quiet space to join the course

The Trauma Center Association of America is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 16459 for 14.0 contact hours.

This course is an on demand course with recorded presentations to watch that total about 4 hours. You can watch the presentations as many times as you like during their access period. There is a live Q&A and then a test at the end for you to measure how well you retained the information. Access to the course will start on 9/8/25 with the live Q&A on 9/18/25.

It’s difficult to visualize different aspects of the internal and external structures of the human body and their physical relationships. In our Trauma Specific Anatomy 2.0 course, you will embark on a fascinating journey that will take you through an exploration of the 9 different sections of the body. This course is a continuation of our Anatomy series, which builds on advanced learners’ knowledge of the human body regions and provides an in-depth understanding of the complex and abstract parts of anatomy. Using illustrations, and explanations, students will explore the relationship of muscles, vessels, bones, tissues, and nerves with each other in a well body and the consequences of traumatic injury. By approaching the study of the body in this organized way, you will gain the knowledge necessary to understand the body, and fully comprehend the relationship to traumatic injuries, as well as possible treatments.

Virtual Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS)15 – October 2025

Virtual AIS15 course for members, October 27-30.

This course will be limited to the first 25 that register and pay. Please let your AP departments (if submitting payment by check), that payments need to be received by September 26.

Four (4) 1/2 day virtual AIS15 training, October 27-30, 9 am to 2 pm

Each participant must have a computer with functioning audiovisual equipment (webcam, headset, or built-in microphone that is turned on throughout the class).

The four 1/2 days course is designed for registrars, trauma nurse coordinators / program managers, physicians, hospital records personnel, and researchers or engineers who are responsible for injury databases. (Participants should have general knowledge of anatomy.)

Course Objectives

  • Understand the structure, organization and contents of the Abbreviated Injury Scale
  • Abstract injury data from medical charts
  • Rule out information that is not codeable
  • Distinguish between injuries and outcomes
  • Apply injury coding rules and guidelines specific to each body region
  • Apply rules for calculating the Injury Severity Score (ISS) for multiple body region injuries

Prerequisites:

  • Minimum of 6 months (1 year or more suggested) experience working with AIS either in a trauma registry or coding of injury cases
  • Basic anatomy course or equivalent
  • Basic medical terminology course or equivalent
