Jennie Dent RN, BSN
Jennie is the Trauma Program Coordinator at Corewell Health, Blodgett Campus in Grand Rapids, a Level 3 Center. She began her career 20 years ago as a bedside RN at Butterworth, a Level 1 Trauma center, working as a charge RN, and preceptor in the Trauma unit. Jennie continued her career with the Butterworth Trauma team as the first Trauma Nurse Navigator for the program. Jennie worked to establish the role and to expand the nurse navigation team, which eventually included transition to the Corewell Health Multidisciplinary Trauma clinic, established in 2019. This clinic allows seamless collaboration across medical specialties to promote optimal patient outcomes thru care coordination, patient advocacy and education. She proudly served with the Multidisciplinary Trauma Team until joining the Corewell Trauma Program at Blodgett in 2022, with successful Trauma State designation in 2024.

Brandi Brock MSN, RN
Brandi is the Trauma Program Coordinator at Corewell Health Reed City and Big Rapids, both are Level IV Trauma centers. Brandi graduated with her RN from Ferris State University in 2015. She started her career at Butterworth in the neuro ICU then transitioned closer to home in the Reed City Emergency Room in 2017. During the time of working in the ED, she went onto obtain her MSN through Chamberlain College. Brandi started her role as a TPC in 2022, had a successful Trauma State designation in 2023 for Big Rapids and has a pending designation visit for Reed City in September 2024.

 

  • Objective 1: Discuss the educational takeaways from conferences via MTC Scholarships for educational and networking opportunities.
  • Objective 2: Identify takeaways from historical Mass Violence events to prepare your centers for MCI planning.

Trauma Program Management Course

The course is offered in a two-day format, September 23 & 24, designed by seasoned leaders in Trauma Program Management throughout the country. It is an interactive course providing Trauma Program Managers/Directors/Coordinators, PI Coordinators, other members of the trauma program, and those interested in joining the field with the core concepts of building a sustainable and comprehensive trauma program. Be one of the first to experience the new cutting-edge course concepts to include:

  • Compatibility with 2022 Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient
    Module dedicated to Leadership, Teamwork, and Communication with senior management
  • Expanded toolkit resources to include editable samples of policies, job descriptions, checklists, spreadsheets, etc.
  • Compendium of web-based resources and supplemental reading list offered to improve access to faculty references
  • Integration of contemporary concepts into materials: PI Dictionaries, Just Culture, report calendars, data validation, SWOT analyses, virtual meetings and visits, and more!
  • Inclusion of revised field triage guidelines, No Surprises Act, acute and chronic stress evaluations, and helicopter shopping
  • Strategic planning and finance includes business plans, strategic plans, internal and external marketing concepts, etc.

This course is recognized throughout the trauma community as the premier course for learning the role and importance of managing a Trauma Program as well as the role of essential members of a trauma program. Each course is taught by seasoned Trauma Program experts who bring years of experience and knowledge to the trauma centers’ success.

The course covers key concepts of a trauma program, including:

    1. Essential components of a trauma system
    2. Leadership roles critical to the success of a Trauma Program
    3. Key components of the Trauma Program Manager role
    4. Important elements of a successful Performance Improvement Patient Safety Program
    5. Planning and preparation for trauma center verification/designation
    6. Best practice recommendations for trauma outreach and education
    7. Implementing a dynamic trauma registry
    8. Important elements of the trauma budget
    9. Design process, tools, and data that will influence optimal reporting in accordance with accepted standards within the industry
    10. Key psychological and socio-economic challenges common in trauma patients

Course Objectives

    1. Describe essential components of trauma programs and trauma systems
    2. Recognize the impact of psychological and socio-economic challenges within the population served
    3. List the roles and responsibilities of the trauma program manager (TPM), trauma medical director (TMD), other trauma program staff and key leadership roles
    4. Identify important elements of a successful Performance Improvement Patient Safety (PIPS) Program
    5. Discuss the planning and preparation necessary for trauma center verification and designation
    6. Describe key components, best practice and implementation for trauma outreach, education, injury prevention, registry, and trauma budget
    7. Discuss designing tools and data to influence optimal reporting in accordance with standards within the trauma industry

Prerequisite / Co-requisites

1. A Laptop or desktop computer with connection to the Internet
2. Webcam with microphone/speakers
3. High speed internet and World-Wide-Web access
4. Quiet space to join the course

The Trauma Center Association of America is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 16459 for 14.0 contact hours.
