Head and Spinal Cord Injuries: Lessons Learned (CME available)

  • This break-out session will provide an overview of the importance of accurately using the Glasgow Coma Score and a baseline neurological assessment in the care of trauma patients. The speaker will also discuss the importance of early recognition, diagnosis, and treatment of spinal cord injuries. Multiple examples of head and spinal cord injuries will be presented to emphasize the importance of the history and physical exam in early detection and preventing errors in management.
  • Objectives:
    1. Emphasize the accurate assessment of the Glasgow Coma Score and its importance.
    2. Identify the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of spinal cord injuries.
