Identifying Elder Abuse

Older people who depend on someone for daily living are at risk for abuse. Abuse can be physical, mental, or financial. Signs of elder abuse are:

  • The person has lost hair, weight, or is looking untidy.
  • They have lost interest in their favorite things.
  • Their health is worse (with bed sores, bruises, burns, or scars).
  • They have unpaid bills.
  • They have not been getting medical care.
  • Their home and living conditions are not safe.
  • They are acting anxious or showing lack of trust.
