Education Committee
The MTC Education Committee was formed when MTC’s Michigan Trauma Nurse Council (MTNC) merged with the MTC Education Special Interest Group (SIG). The MTNC began in the late 1990’s as a group of Trauma Program Managers (TPMs)/ Coordinators and Injury Prevention Coordinators from across Michigan, who met to network, strategize and formulate educational, injury prevention, and research plans. The MTNC met in parallel with the MTC meetings.
As the MTC membership grew it included both experienced trauma leadership and many new hospital representatives who were just getting started in their roles. As member needs evolved, many of the new members requested information and education about a variety of trauma management and pre-verification topics.
The merged group was formalized as the MTC Education Committee, and now provides a conduit for 1.) identifying educational offerings that fulfill the greatest benefit for MTC member trauma centers, 2.) establishing priorities for bringing courses to Michigan, and 3.) coordinating an annual calendar of these programs that are sponsored and subsidized by the MTC. These programs are offered either virtually or in a convenient, centralized location and include offerings for Trauma Program Managers/ Coordinators, Registrars, Performance Improvement (PI) Coordinators, Injury Prevention Coordinators, and clinical staff:
- Registrar and coding courses include the AIS Scoring Course, the ICD-10 Trauma Coding Course, and Basic and Advanced Registrar Courses.
- Courses for Trauma Program Managers/Coordinators and Performance Improvement Coordinators include the TPM training course, TOPIC (Trauma Outcomes and Performance Improvement Course), the Optimal Trauma Center Organization & Management Course, the TCAA Finance Course, and TCAR (Trauma Care After Resuscitation).
- Programs for Injury Prevention Coordinators include the American Trauma Society’s Injury Prevention Training Course, Car-Fit Training, and other specialized training.
MTC offers all of these courses at a reduced rate to its member trauma centers.
