MTC Conference Scholarships – Draft
PURPOSE:
To advance the mission of the Michigan Trauma Coalition (MTC), the organization has chosen to offer conference scholarship funding for members interested in attending an educational conference. The MTC has recognized this as a professional development area to enhance educational offerings to members.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE:
Financial assistance for conference attendance is based on experience and participation in the MTC programs including but not limited to meetings, presentations, and volunteer hours. The applicant’s facility must be a current member of the MTC.
SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS:
General Membership Awards. The MTC awards scholarships based on a comprehensive process. Areas that are reviewed by the committee include but are not limited to the following: participation in MTC committees and meetings, completeness of the application, experience, and financial need. MTC provides financial reimbursement to scholarship awardees directly when conditions of the award are met.
Leadership Awards. Members of the MTC Executive Board or Leadership Council may choose to apply for a course or conference that is applicable to their job title or volunteer role within MTC. These applications will be reviewed upon receipt with the total amount of the award not to exceed $2000, with a maximum of one award annually per leader.
TIMELINE:
Applications for the General Membership scholarships are due by November 30th of the current calendar year for events occurring January 1st to June 30th of the following calendar year. Applications are due May 30th for events occurring July 1st to December 31st. Scholarships may be awarded outside of these application windows based on availability of funds.
POST-AWARD EXPECTATIONS:
- In order to share the information gleaned from the conference with the general membership, the recipient is required to present at a General Membership Meeting (or a designated breakout session) of the Michigan Trauma Coalition to review key concepts and lessons learned from the conference.
- All conference scholarship recipients are required to submit a copy of an original PowerPoint (or similar format) presentation to our email within 30 days of conference attendance.
APPLICATION PROCESS
SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS:
- Payment for conferences must be made by the scholarship recipient. Facilities will NOT be reimbursed. Reimbursement will be distributed to awardees via PayPal or by check after all requirements are met.
- Applicant MUST have a current, valid Government issued ID (such as a driver’s license, passport, or U.S. military ID.)
- Scholarships will be awarded based upon the availability of funds. The maximum reimbursement that will be provided to each scholarship recipient is $2,000 for in person conferences and $500 for virtual or in-state, local conferences. If virtual or in-state conference fees are requested, the total number of awards will be determined based on applications and amount of fees requested. The total funds for all scholarship winners will not exceed $12,000 annually.
- Reimbursement for conferences will be provided after a list of itemized conference fees have been received as well as a copy of receipts to confirm conference costs. Conference costs include registration fee, travel fees, hotel stay and up to $50 per day for dining (excluding alcohol). Awardees attending virtual or in state conferences will be reimbursed up to $500.
- Reimbursement will be provided after an original PowerPoint (or similar format) presentation is submitted by the scholarship recipient to our email sharing key concepts gained from the conference. Reimbursement will occur within 14 business days of receipt of the PowerPoint and the completed MTC Reimbursement form. Reimbursement may occur prior to presentation at the next MTC General Membership Meeting or breakout session.
- Candidates that fail to provide a PowerPoint presentation at a designated MTC General Membership Meeting or breakout session will not be considered to receive future conference scholarships.
CONSIDERATIONS:
- If the conference is canceled or the awardee is unable to attend, the Michigan Trauma Coalition will not be responsible for any non-reimbursable fees or costs incurred by the scholarship awardee.
Application Guidelines
The following guidelines are for those MTC members interested in attending an educational conference occurring either virtually or outside the state of Michigan. While not a requirement, the Michigan Trauma Coalition (MTC) highly recommends those applying for a scholarship have at least 1 year as an active MTC member.
Applications will not be processed if considered incomplete. Any application related questions send to our email.
