The Hartford Consensus III
-
- STOP THE BLEED® traces its origins to the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings in Newtown, CT, on December 2012. A few months after the event, a concerned local trauma surgeon and Regent of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), Lenworth M. Jacobs, Jr., MD, FACS, requested to review victims’ autopsy records, which showed that the victims had died from severe injuries and hemorrhage.
-
- This knowledge led trauma surgeons from the ACS joining with other experts in the fields of emergency medical care, government, and law enforcement to discuss the matter. The group met several times and developed expert recommendations on how to improve the rate of survival for people with severe bleeding. Because two of these early meetings were held in Hartford, their recommendations became known as the Hartford Consensus.

Rotary Saves Lives with Stop the Bleed
-
- A local Rotary Club in Pennsylvania applied for a district grant which allowed its members to get a $2,500 match and purchase 300 tourniquets for a local township police station. Those police officers were educated by the local trauma center on their use, and it was those tourniquets that saved the life of the boy in the bicycling accident. See full story at link above.
