Road Safety

Injury Prevention works to increase safety on the roads, reducing risk and severity of injuries. MTC contributes by working to minimize crashes, protect vulnerable road users, educating on safe behaviors and vehicle safety, and improve emergency response.

Kids and Cars

In our busy 21st century lives, our cars are an integral part of what we do every day. By paying attention to a few important steps, we can help to keep our children safe and sound in and around cars – from their first car seat to entering their teen years and driving alone behind the wheel.

Programs in this category include child passenger safety, pedestrian safety in streets and roadways, driveway safety, teaching children that cars are not playthings, and teaching adults not to leave children in cars.

CarFit

CarFit is an educational program that offers older adults the opportunity to check how well their personal vehicles “fit” them. The CarFit program also provides information and materials on community-specific resources that could enhance their safety as drivers, and/or increase their mobility in the community.

At a CarFit event, a team of trained technicians and/or health professionals work with each participant to ensure they “fit” their vehicle properly for maximum comfort and safety. Click here for a link to CarFit events offered around the country

Safe Drivers Smart Options: Keys to Lifelong Mobility

Safe Drivers Smart Options provides resources for active older drivers, and for drivers who may be considering limiting their driving and finding other transportation choices. Helping maintain lifelong safe mobility is everyone’s responsibility, including aging adults, families and friends, and professionals who interact with aging adults. Note: It is projected that by 2025, 1 in 5 drivers in Michigan will be 65 years or older.
