Special AIS course – participant selected
Each participant must have a computer with functioning audiovisual equipment (webcam, headset, or built-in microphone that is turned on throughout the class).
The four 1/2 days course is designed for registrars, trauma nurse coordinators / program managers, physicians, hospital records personnel, and researchers or engineers who are responsible for injury databases. (Participants should have general knowledge of anatomy.)
Course Objectives
- Understand the structure, organization and contents of the Abbreviated Injury Scale
- Abstract injury data from medical charts
- Rule out information that is not codeable
- Distinguish between injuries and outcomes
- Apply injury coding rules and guidelines specific to each body region
- Apply rules for calculating the Injury Severity Score (ISS) for multiple body region injuries
Prerequisites:
- Minimum of 6 months (1 year or more suggested) experience working with AIS either in a trauma registry or coding of injury cases
- Basic anatomy course or equivalent
- Basic medical terminology course or equivalent
*Participants are required to attest that they meet all prerequisite requirements for the course prior to participation. It is the responsibility of the participant to ensure they have fulfilled these requirements. Any misrepresentation of eligibility, resulting in failure to meet course standards, will be solely the responsibility of the participant.
Members only event. Member savings $375. Cost includes the AIS2015 manual (electronically or hard copy – electronic is suggested). Registration and payment must be received by April 17, 2026. No late registrations will be accepted. The cancellation policy will be enforced.
